Hampshire & Isle of Wight - Cross Country Championships

1350 Take The Honours

The Hampshire and Isle of Wight Wing Cross Country Championships took place at AGC Worthy Down on Sunday 19th October 2008.

The Cross Country Championships were run around the sports fields at Worthy Down over a winding course of approximately three miles.  81 cadets from thirteen Squadrons competed in five age groups three for male cadets two for female cadets.

Class A for junior boys was well represented with nine squadrons entering Cadets into the class. The individual medal went to Cadet Trewin of 1350 (Fareham & District) Squadron. The class was also won by 1350 Squadron who showed strength in depth in the class with three cadets in the top seven runners. 

Class B for intermediate boys had the largest entry with some twenty nine athletes from eleven squadrons.  The individual event was won for the third year running by Corporal Shadbolt of 1350 (Fareham) Squadron with a sub fifteen minute time.  The class winners were 1216 (Eastleigh) Squadron

The senior male class C was a much smaller class with only nine runners competing.  The class winner was Flight Sergeant Jones of 1927 (Petersfield) Squadron.  There was only one full team entry in this class and 2428 (Hedge End) Squadron won gold medals for their excellent effort.

Class D for the junior female cadets had thirteen runners this was up from the eight of last season.  The event was won by Cadet Othen of 2412 (Borden & District) Squadron.  The class event was won by 1927 (Petersfield) Squadron with three cadets finishing in the top seven.

Class E the senior female cadet class was won by 424 (City of Southampton) Squadron who were convincing class winners some sixteen points in front of second place 1350 Squadron.  The individual winner was Cadet Strange of 424 Squadron who followed last years win in Class D with another good effort.

Congratulations to all the winners.  The first four cadets in each class will be called forward to compete on behalf of the Wing at RAF Lyneham on the 7th December.  Notification of this will follow shortly via squadron commanders.  A list of the overall finishing positions is listed below.
