Hampshire and the Isle of Wight Female Sports Cadet of the Year |
This is awarded to Cadet Fiona James of 1391 (Romsey) Squadron. Cadet James is a highly skilled hockey player and has competed for both the Wing and Region at both the junior and senior level this year. She has also played netball for the Wing at both junior and senior level and for Region in the junior side. Cadet James competed for the Wing in athletics and was part of the Winning Wing team this year with victories in the long jump, high jump and the 400 metres.. She was also part of the winning 4x100m and 4x400m relay teams. Cadet James competed for the Region team at DCAE Cosford and won a place in the Corps side coming second in the long jump. Unfortunately due to family commitments she was unable to compete on the day. Away from the Air Training Corps Fiona James competes for her school in the Hockey and Netball teams as well as at Rounders where her school were the county champions last year. Outside of school Fiona James is also a member of the Team Solent Athletics club and competes in both the Long and High Jump to county standard and is ranked inside the top one hundred for her age nationally. Previously she was a member of Preston and then Durham Harriers before moving to Hampshire. She also plays hockey for Romsey ladies hockey team. Fiona James has an infectious nature has been inspiring to others and she is highly deserving of this award.
