Cadets ‘assume the position’ while defending an RAFP Land Rover from a frontal assault.
Flt Lt Phil Giles took time off from his normal routine at Ringwood & Fordingbridge to become Course Commander for one of the recent RAFP Work Experience Courses held at RAF Stations Brampton, Henlow and Wittering. 20 odd Cadets plus Adult Staff attended a four-day presentation by the RAFP ranging from the day-to-day to life of an RAF Policeman to covert Counter Intelligence Operations and VIP Close Protection. Gone are the days when the RAFP simply greeted you at the gate of an RAF Station. The RAFP today plays an important role in the protection of the RAF’s assets around the world, is heavily involved in both Middle East Operations and peacekeeping duties and advises on all types of security issues. The RAFP today is an important job and can be extremely rewarding both professionally and socially.

This course was not a camp and it shouldn’t be confused with one. The majority of Cadets attending were NCOs or Senior Cadets who were seriously thinking of a career with the RAFP.
Flt Lt Giles added:
‘the course was structured, but pressure-free and the Cadets were trusted and treated as mature young people. I am pleased to say that not one of them let me or the rest of the supervising staff down. The RAFP were brilliant and the course was varied and action-packed. There is no ‘pressure sell’ here. Cadets are given a real life insight into the Royal Air Force Police by people who are doing the job 24/7. The individual is left to form his or her own impression’…………...
