OC WING's CHRISTMAS MESSAGE |
Another busy and very successful year draws to a close and Hampshire and Isle of Wight Wing continues to flourish in all activities. On the sporting front, our individual cadets and teams achieved notable successes, and a very good number of cadets went on to represent the Region and then the Corps. We won the Regional trophy as best performing sports Wing within the Region, and came 7th in the Gillan Trophy Competition. Those successes would not have happened, without the dedication and time and effort put in by the Wing Sports Officer and his stalwart panel. 1105 (City of Winchester) Sqn won the Regional Drill competition for the 4th year in succession, and came 3rd in the Corps competition. CWO Brickwood won the National Drill Competition for the second time - a splendid achievement. The long awaited new building opened at Hedge End and the joint cadet building at Eastleigh will soon be handed over. A new building for Fareham and Yateley are on the horizon. We achieved a good number of Duke of Edinburgh's Awards during the year, with 2407(Yateley and Eversley) Sqn leading the way with Gold Awards. Many cadets gained B TEC awards during the year, and several staff gained City and Guilds qualifications. Two cadets went on IACE, and many of our cadets attended Summer and Autumn Camps with well supported Wing Camps at Fort Blockhouse, St Martins Plain, Browndown and Windermere. May I wish each and every one of our Officers, SNCOs, Civilian Instructors, Committee Members and Cadets a very Happy Christmas and a peaceful and successful New Year. May I also thank you for the time, effort and commitment put in for the benefit of our Cadets.
