1105 (City of Winchester) Sqn take Bronze!

Date: Saturday November 18th 2005. Location: RAF Halton, Buckinghamshire. Event: Annual Air Training Corps Drill Competition.

And for the second year in succession, 1105 (City of Winchester) Sqn represents Southwest Region ATC in the Corps finals

From the 1000 squadrons in the Corps, 6 units attend. All have won their wing competitions and all have won their regional competitions. These 6 are the best in the Corps.

Assembled in front of Senior Staff from HQ Air Cadets and other honoured guests, these 6 squadrons performed a set piece drill display marked by three Royal Air Force drill instructors from RAF Halton's School for Recruit Training. And nothing misses thier expert eye. A beret not quite level - minus 1 point. A "tramline" crease - minus one point. A split second late in dropping an arm in a salute - minus 1 point.

So after watching 6 squadrons display their skills in the morning, we all waited for the final results. As 2005 Champions, 1105 Squadron wanted to retain the trophy. But it was not to be this year. The standards were incredibly high and the trophies went to 220 (St Albans) Squadron as Corps Champions. Runners up in 2nd Place were 1145 (Dunfermline) Sqn and 1105 in 3rd place.

The team was joined on the day by Squadron Leader Priest and Warrant Officer Blyth from Wing HQ. OC 1105 Sqn, Flight Lieutenant H Agate said he could not have asked for more from the cadets. They gave 100%, a sentiment echoed by Warrant Officer M Holdaway, the squadron Warrant Officer.

But as Group Captain Mike Cross, Chief of Staff Air Cadets, said, "There are no losers here - you are in the top 6 in the Corps and the best in your region. We are all tremendously proud of your achievements"

Well do to 1105 Sqn
