On the afternoon of the 4th May a lone Spitefire flew over the small village of Ibsley. This was a very special event for the people gathered below as it marked the end of the Unveiling of the RAF Ibsley roll of Honour ceremony that had just taken place. Present at the special occasion were Group Captain Adrian Hill and Wing Commander Christian Cornish from the Royal Air Force, Captain Willis 'Wally', a retired fighter pilot from 404 Squadron USAAF, and Mrs Shirley Simmonds who was an MTC Driver at RAF Ibsley during WWII, and who is also the widow of Vernon Simmonds, a pilot from 118 Squadron, based at RAF Iblsey in 1941. Music was provided by the Ringwood and Burley Band.

Cadets from 2515 (Ringwood & Fordingbridge) Squadron were asked to help out and undertook various roles: Handing out order of services to all who attended, standing either side of the Roll of Honour, helping with the removal of standards and marching down to the Memorial site with the standards from the Royal Air Force Association.
The event ended with a buffet tea at the village hall.
