Totton cadets do the Poppy Walk |
2495 (Totton) Detached Flight (DF) Cadets walked away in support of a local Royal British Legion Poppy Walk (sponsored Walk)in support of the Legion's annual Poppy appeal with 50% of funds raised by the cadets going direct to the cadet's unit.
The day was well turned out with excellent weather and the promise of sandwiches and cakes upon completion. There were two routes available, one was 5 miles and the other was 10 miles. Once it had been established that the Totton Army cadets had all opted for the longer 10 mile route, it left no option for the 2495 DF cadets, the gauntlet had been thrown down, 2495DF cadets were not to be beaten, they rose to the challenge and marched off in hot persuit of the Army Cadet team, leaving Flying Officer Gary Harding dragging behind and having to tab to catch them up! All the cadets from 2495 DF completed the full 10 miles in a good respectable time. The Royal British Legion organisers and supporters were very pleased to see the Air Cadets supporting the Poppy Walk for the first time and are now looking to form an affilation with 2495 Totton DF in the near future and also to involve the cadets in more activities through out the year. Cadet O'Brien said "some of our cadets only wanted to do the 5 mile course, but when we found out the Army Cadets were all doing the 10 mile course we all changed our minds, we couldnt let the Army Cadets beat us". A great day out was enjoyed by all who attended. |
