We have been lucky enough to secure a grant for £8,000 from the Youth Opportunity Fund which is going towards converting one of our rooms to a state-of-the-art multi-media classroom and flight simulator.

It will enable cadets to have controlled internet access, a controlled gaming environment for flight simulation purposes and a place to complete their aviation and aeronautics oriented academic studies.

CI Paul Carter saw the grant being advertised in the local County press and initially thought five hundred pounds would be enough for a new computers. After a short conversation with our local contact we decided to up the grant to £8000 and we were very lucky.

This is an amazing opportunity for the squadron to move forward in the 21st century!

 It features: -

  1. 50 inch Plasma TV
  2. 5 Desk top PC’s all with internet access and everyone has their own account for work. Every computer also has flight simulation software.
  3. 1 High spec PC which enables a more high definition flight simulation with all the graphics!
  4. DVD home entertainment system.
  5. Printer.
  6. New state of the art digital camera.
  7. 1 High definition lap top which is portable with flight simulators.
  8. 1 projector to blow up gaming onto the big screen!
  9. New storage areas for ACP’s.
  10. New computer chairs.
  11. A huge supply of stationary
  12. New storage space for all our new kit!

We would like to thank island based PC consultants for helping us out with the fitting and ordering of all our equipment, with out them none of this would have been possible.

The grant came from a nation wide fund called the Youth Opportunities Fund. This fund is open for all to apply for and I would encourage everyone to apply for some kind of funding for a squadron project. My motto is, “If you do not ask you will not get”!

The new multi media suit will be officially opened at the end of May with special guests from around the island being invited.
