Weapon Instructor Course No 317/08

Further to information published in WROs and on the Wg website, the next Weapon Instructor course will take place at the SWSATT Trg Centre, Support Unit Fort Blockhouse, Gosport over the period 20-22 Feb 09.

This course is required for personnel who want to instruct on weapons used by the Cadet Forces. The course was designed for the ATC by the Small Arms School Corps (SASC), to teach and assess personnel on the method of
instruction applicable to weapon instruction. The course is mainly conducted using the L98A1 Rifle. Personnel who pass this course can act as a Safety Supervisor on the firing point. Successful students are awarded the qualification WI(C). The course can also be completed using the No8 Service Rifle. As with all SWSATT courses the WI course is not an 'attendance' course. Students must attend being fully trained and current (by WHT) on the weapon used, and will be expected to pass a further WHT on the course.

The WI Course is open to RAF VR(T) Officers, ATC SNCO, CI’s (fully appointed with CIN) and Cdts Inst SNCOs. It is recommended that this course is completed before the Range Management Qualification course SA(SR)(07).

OC Sqns are directed to inform all staff of the course and ensure that any interested staff complete the attached application form. Course places will be offered out on a first come first served basis, biased towards those Units that don't have such qualified personnel. Course Joining Instructions will be sent out in due course.
